My Top 4 Summer to Fall Transition Essentials

Just because the change of the season is drawing near does not mean I want to put all of my fun summer dresses, blouses, tanks, etc. on hiatus. I still plan on making good use out of some of my more neutral pieces and summer colors (like camel, blue, grey, etc). during the fall season.

I accomplish this by incorporating some key fall essentials into my wardrobe to transition my carefree summer vibe into a look that better accommodates a drop in temperature yet is just as casual or career ready.

1. Neutral booties

A cute but sturdy pair of ankle boots or booties is one of the best ways to I take my look from summertime fly to fall fabulous. In the summer the booties can be worn with summer dresses or denim shorts and cute tanks. In the fall the booties look amazing with coated, skinny jeans or leggings. A great option to try are the Sole Society booties (lots of color options like grey, army green, burgundy, etc.) or the Frye open toe booties.

2. Add blazers

A classic or a bold blazer over my summer dresses (and my favorite dark denim/tanks) easily take my favorites from summer to fall. A few blazers should be staples in every wardrobe. I love to incorporate jewel toned colors for the fall, like burgundy and emerald. Of course a black blazer is a must, but I look for details like zippered sleeves or leather piping to give it a twist, similar to this blazer by Yoins.

3. Swap out your makeup

During the summer I am all about rocking a nude lip and pink nails (who am I kidding, sometimes I keep my pink nails in the fall), but as the season changes, so does my makeup. Something about the layering of my clothes reminds me it's time to add some depth above my neck as well. I love a deep wine lip color and rich, brown eye color for the fall. Urban Decay has a great selection of colors - bonus -  their lipstick is extremely hydrating and long-lasting. One of my fave brands. F-bomb and Shame are great fall colors.

4. Invest in a leather jacket

You may have noticed, a great moto or leather jacket is extremely versatile for the fall/winter. The jacket pairs well not only with denim but looks equally fab with skirts, black leggings, dresses, etc. It is a completely chic look and a necessary staple for the seasonal transition. For me this leather jacket by ASOS fits the bill perfectly.

There are many other staples to help with the transition, such as scarves, hats and jewelry but in my closet, the four items above are what keep me from starting fresh.
